Booka Shade return with the second explosive single to be taken from their The Sun & The Neon Light LP. „Charlotte“ appears here in four different remixes, two by Booka Shade themselves and one apiece by Dubfire and Matchbox.
Booka Shade kick off proceedings with their own remix of „Charlotte“, re-shaping the original into an expansive, anthemic dancefloor cut that grows out of spindly arpeggios into a glorious overload of drums and swirling synths. Three minutes in comes the monumental, irresistible breakdown and a drop into the melodic bass and crisp percussion interplay that Booka Shade do well. Propulsive, immediate and unforgettable.
The „No Pain No Gain Mix“ is contrastingly menacing, minimalist cut, proving that Booka Shade are second to no one when it comes to fashioning sinister but moreover sensuous club tracks. They use the basic rhythmic and melodic textures and motifs of the original track to produce a more skeletal yet somehow more muscular mix that lays out a series of warm, inviting builds and breakdowns which warp into air-tight, dancefloor-devastating drops. This is a lean, hypnotic and powerful piece of electronic house music that no DJ or dancer should be without.
Dubfire should need no introduction. As one half of Deep Dish, he’s taken progressive house to new and unexpected places, and more recently in his solo work he’s explored the possibilities of a more robust, refined minimal techno sound. The Dubfire remix of „Charlotte“ is sparse but funk-fuelled – the space between the drums and synth stabs give the track a fabulous swing and zip. Dubfire retains fragments of the original’s melody for this heady, body-moving trip into after-hours mellifluousness and mirth.
Recent Get Physical signings Matchbox take the cascading drum fills of „Charlotte“ and run with them; creating a crunchy tech-funk bomb driven by taut snap-claps and rip-roaring analogue bass.
